The Bloomberg Square Mile Virtual Club was born out of the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay, a corporate and fully immersive relay race run in the heart of 12 financial districts across the globe.
When the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the global relay community from gathering at their annual city races we pivoted to offering our community a digital experience, which is why 12 city groups were originally created on the Virtual Club for runners to join. This allowed all our relay runners to maintain their motivation and community spirit whilst remaining physically distant, but it also meant we were able to bring our global community together virtually, not only for the purpose of competition but also to support their health and wellbeing.
A 13th city, Frankfurt, was added following the announcement that it will be hosting a Bloomberg Square Mile Relay live race in the near future, and a ‘Rest of World’ category was also created on the Virtual Club to allow corporates from companies in offices all over the world to join our global community.
However, since the Bloomberg Square Mile Virtual Club began we have seen runners from companies in offices all over the world want to join our community, which is why we created the Rest of World category alongside the original 12 relay cities.
